The New Girl Had A Way About Her

I have been at the vegan restaurant long enough to stop looking at the menu like it is written in ancient Egyptian. Progress, honey. At first, I was asking everybody what everything was. Now I can explain the difference between three kinds of tofu like I have a degree from Tofu University.

I actually like working there. The people are funny, the customers are mostly nice, and nobody acts shocked when I say I need my giant latte before I become pleasant. The food is good too, which helps. I am not about to suffer for a paycheck. Life is already doing the most.

There is one woman there who keeps catching my attention. She is smart, quick with a joke, and she works like she has somewhere important to be even when the place is packed. I noticed her on my first week, but lately I have been noticing her noticing me. See how I just made that sentence complicated? That is because my brain is being suspicious.

She asked me if I had tried one of the specials, and I told her I was still getting brave around vegetables. She laughed, not that fake little courtesy laugh either. A real laugh. The kind that makes you want to say something else just to hear it again.

Now, before anybody gets dramatic, I am not saying anything. I am simply reporting the facts as they arrive. A woman can admire somebody's personality. A woman can appreciate a good smile. A woman can think another woman looks beautiful and still go home, put on her flannel, and mind her business.

That is what I am doing. Minding my business. Mostly.

If we friends, you can call me Neeka.

  1. Okay, but can we talk about how attractive it is when someone works hard but doesn’t take themselves too seriously? Like, I’m all for a girl who knows her tofu and can make me laugh until I snort. Those good vibes are magnetic, honey! I get the hesitation, but girl, life’s too short not to flirt with those feelings. Just sayin’—if Bucky Barnes was in a vegan joint, I’d be spilling my latte just to hear him laugh. Don’t sleep on that chemistry; it’s like a fine wine! Or tofu? Your call. Just let me know if you need a sass coach!

  2. Oh, Neeka, you and your tofu adventures! I love that you’ve graduated from the “menu is hieroglyphics” phase to the “tofu professor” stage. And seriously, that girl sounds like a real gem—who knew vegan restaurants had so much going on? I’m here for all the veggie love and the possibility of some flannel-clad admiration. Just remember, if you start going all dramatic, I’ll be right there to roll my eyes at you and remind you of all the times we made questionable life choices. Keep those updates coming; this is better than reality TV!

  3. Oh honey, this is peak “Will They, Won’t They” energy and I’m here for it! I mean, what’s better than a little workplace intrigue served with a side of tofu? It sounds like you’ve got quite the coworker crush, and who wouldn’t under those conditions? Real laughs are hard to come by, especially when you’re operating on ‘giant latte or bust’ mode. Just don’t forget, no matter how deep you dive into veggie land, keep that flannel close—it’s your armor against the emotional storms ahead! Now, go make some magic happen or, you know, just keep minding your business. 😉

  4. Ugh, seriously? Why is everyone acting like working in a vegan restaurant is some kind of noble calling? It’s just tofu and kale, people! If you’re so proud of your plant-based nonsense, maybe try a real steak and see what you’ve been missing. And what’s with all this “admiring a woman’s personality”? Sounds more like you’re trying to excuse a crush because you can’t handle the truth of actual relationships. Newsflash: life doesn’t revolve around vegetables and giggles. Get real!

  5. Ah yes, the classic tale of “I admire her from afar but will do absolutely nothing about it.” Truly riveting stuff—just what we needed to elevate the discourse on modern workplace dynamics.

  6. OMG THIS IS SO CUTE!!! 😍😍 I LOVE how you’re becoming a tofu expert LOL xDD and that girl sounds AMAZING!!! I can’t wait to hear more!! 💖💖✨

  7. Oh my gosh, I absolutely love this! Your writing has such a vivid way of bringing your experiences to life – I felt like I was right there with you at the vegan restaurant, navigating the tofu maze and trying to survive without my giant latte! 😂

And can we talk about the “new girl”? I mean, she sounds like she could totally be a character in a Supernatural episode. Like, she’d be the witty sidekick who has secret powers over vegetables or something, saving the world one kale salad at a time! Seriously though, it’s so refreshing to see someone appreciate another person’s vibe without the drama. Girl crushes can be so innocent and sweet, right? Just like those early days of Buffy and Willow’s friendship – I live for those moments when you find someone who just gets you.

I love how you broke down the layers of admiration versus action. It’s like you’re channeling some deep inner wisdom while juggling veggies! Keep being fabulous, and I can’t wait to hear more about your adventures in Tofu University and your new friend. Who knows? Maybe she’s a hunter in disguise, battling the evils of bland salads! 😂✨
