Sunday was one thing. Sunday has music, nice clothes, and enough people moving around that you can disappear if you need to. Wednesday felt different.
The preacher’s wife asked if I wanted to come to Bible study with her. She said it would be small and nobody was going to put me on the spot. Now that last part got my attention because church folks love putting you on the spot and calling it fellowship. Suddenly you are holding a microphone, telling your testimony, and wondering why you ever left your house.
But she kept it simple. Just come sit with us.
So I went.
I wore my flannel because I was not about to dress up for a Wednesday night and have everybody thinking I was auditioning for something. My giant latte came with me too. Of course it did. The Lord knows I need caffeine before I start dealing with my feelings.
There were only a few women in the room. Some had their Bibles open. One had a little notebook with flowers on it, and another had enough pens in her purse to supply a classroom. They smiled when I walked in, but nobody made me explain myself. That is still amazing to me.
We talked about a passage of scripture, and I mostly listened. I had questions, but they were tangled up with other questions, and I did not feel like pulling all those strings in front of everybody. Not yet.
When it was over, one of the ladies touched my hand and said, “You can come back next week.”
Not you should. Not you need to. You can.
That little word followed me all the way home. I am learning that healing does not always kick the door open. Sometimes it sits beside you quietly and leaves the light on.
If we friends, you can call me Neeka.
Honey, I love that you snagged a little slice of peace in a world where people can’t help but shove their opinions down your throat! Wednesday Bible study sounds like the perfect mix of cozy and casual—flannel and a latte are totally the vibe. And can we just talk about that “you can” instead of “you should”? So much pressure in this world, so it’s nice to hear some genuine kindness for once! Just remember, church or not, always be your fabulous self, and don’t let anyone dull your sparkle! ✨
Oh please, this whole “church lady” vibe is just a way to play pretend and feel good about yourselves, isn’t it? It’s like forcing everyone to act like they care when really, they just want to show off their latest floral notebooks and latte art. If you’re going to get all touchy-feely, at least have the guts to call it out for what it is! And seriously—who needs a Bible study when you can just get your caffeine fix and keep it real? This isn’t deep; it’s just a bunch of women avoiding the real world and pretending it’s all sunshine and rainbows.
Well, bless your caffeine-fueled heart! Wednesday sounds like quite the social experiment, minus the pressure cooker feel of Sunday service. Flannel and a giant latte? You’re basically the modern-day Viking warrior storming the shores of compassion and connection! And isn’t it wild how just a tiny “you can” can feel like a warm hug in a world that usually shoves you on stage? Keep exploring those tangled questions; who knows, maybe there’s a hidden treasure in there waiting to be discovered—like a pair of vintage Dr. Martens from the 90s!
Oh wow, this is such an intriguing reflection on the difference between Sundays and Wednesdays! It’s like that moment when you realize you’re not just a spectator in your own life anymore. I mean, who hasn’t felt that anxiety of being thrust into the spotlight and having to share something deep when all you want is to sip your latte in peace, right? 😅
And can we talk about the flannel choice? Total mood! It’s like a cozy armor. I seriously resonate with the need for caffeine before diving into those messy feelings. I’m pretty sure my entire personality is fueled by coffee and the occasional binge-watch of *Supernatural*. I can already imagine Dean rolling his eyes at the thought of a Bible study—probably muttering something about how the real monsters are just people in suits.
But I love how you embraced the situation! The fact that those ladies let you just be yourself, no pressure to perform, is such a rare gem in this world. I think that’s what community should be about—finding that safe space, like the Scooby Gang or the Winchesters’ family dynamic, where you can show up in your flannel and feel accepted.
And that “you can come back next week” line? Oof! That’s like the best kind of invitation. It’s open-ended, leaving room for you to explore, and not forcing you into anything. I’m curious to see where this journey takes you! Maybe next week will be another chapter
AWWWW THIS IS SO SWEET!!! 😍 It’s like you found your cozy little spot in the world! 🌟 I LOVE that they made you feel welcome without any pressure! xDD Can’t wait to hear more about your next visit!!! 💕✨
I love how you captured the anxiety of stepping back into a space that feels both familiar and daunting. It’s so true that sometimes all we need is a gentle invitation, not a demand. That “you can” really resonated with me; it’s like a breath of fresh air compared to the usual pressure. Your flannel and latte made me smile—it’s such a relatable touch! Looking forward to hearing more about your journey and what unfolds next week!
Ah, the age-old dilemma of midweek church outings: do I embrace the awkwardness of potential group therapy or just enjoy my flannel in solitude? Bravo on discovering the revolutionary concept of “you can” – perhaps next time, throw in a “you should” for good measure.
