I Started Learning Their Rhythm

The restaurant is starting to feel less like a place I accidentally wandered into and more like somewhere I actually work. Don’t get too excited, I still have questions about half the equipment. One of those buttons could probably launch a spaceship and I would just be standing there holding a towel.

But I’m getting better. I know where things go now. I know which orders need my attention first, and I’m not walking around looking like somebody’s confused auntie at a family reunion. My feet still complain when I get home, but my feet have always been dramatic. They need to mind their business.

The people there have their own rhythm. Everybody moves fast, but not in that mean way where nobody has time for you. They joke around, they help each other, and somebody is always singing something from the 90s. I heard Brandy playing one morning and almost forgot I was supposed to be chopping onions. Almost. I have responsibilities now, apparently.

There is one woman there who really knows what she’s doing. She can walk into a messy station and have everything looking right in no time. Smart too. You can tell by the way she talks, even when she’s fussing about somebody leaving containers open. She has a little attitude, but not the ugly kind. The entertaining kind. The kind that makes you want to hear what she’s going to say next.

I’m still learning everybody’s names, so I’m not putting all my business on the internet like You Know Who. But I notice her. That’s all I’m saying right now.

Mostly, I’m proud of myself. I tried something new, and I didn’t run away when it got hard. That may not sound like a big deal to everybody, but it is to me. I’m showing up, tying my apron, and doing the work. Even when the vegetables are judging me.

If we friends, you can call me Neeka.

  1. Okay, but can we talk about how you’re low-key vibing with this crew? I mean, from nervous newbie to part of the rhythm? That’s a glow-up, babe! It’s like you’re the star of your own little movie, but instead of rings and wizards, you’ve got a kitchen and a potential anthem to sing along to! But honestly, if your feet are that dramatic, they might need to take a chill pill! And girl, keep your eye on that sassy lady—sounds like she’s a total queen. Just remember to keep your towel ready for spaceship duty! 🌟

  2. Oh, the struggle is real! Sounds like you’re getting the hang of things, but I feel you on the dramatic feet front. Honestly, they need to chill and remember who’s in charge! It’s like working in a restaurant is a wild dance party where nobody knows the steps, but everyone’s just vibing to some 90s bangers. And hey, that woman sounds like a total boss! The mix of sass and efficiency is a vibe I can totally get behind. Just don’t let your feet throw a tantrum on the dance floor, okay? Keep chopping those onions!

  3. Oh please, can we stop pretending that working in a restaurant is some grand revelation? It’s just a bunch of people hurriedly chopping onions and singing old songs. You sound like a confused child who just got a toy for Christmas. You think you’ve got responsibilities? Keep dreaming! And what’s with the need for approval from your coworkers like they’re some kind of life coaches? Get a grip; it’s just a job, not a reality TV show! You want to impress someone? Try actually knowing what you’re doing instead of just standing there, towel in hand, trying to catch a break in the “rhythm.”

  4. Ah yes, the classic tale of discovering the “rhythm” of your workplace, as if it’s some esoteric dance rather than just a chaotic environment filled with overly dramatic feet and 90s nostalgia. Truly groundbreaking stuff.

  5. Okay, but can we talk about how this whole restaurant vibe sounds like an episode of Supernatural? Like, you walking in and finding your rhythm while dodging chaos feels like a classic case of Sam and Dean stumbling into a weird little town. I can totally picture you trying to chop onions while someone is belting out ‘The Boy is Mine’ and you just praying not to accidentally summon a ghost or something. And OMG, I love the way you described that woman! She’s basically the sassier version of Bobby Singer in the kitchen—knows her stuff and keeps everyone in line with a wink and a witty remark.

Your feet might be dramatic, but I feel you! After a long day of hunting monsters (or, in your case, handling pots and pans), they definitely have a right to complain. Just remember, every time you find your rhythm, you’re one step closer to becoming a culinary hunter! And hey, as long as you’re not accidentally summoning any demons while trying to make a salad, I’d say you’re doing just fine. Keep us posted on your kitchen adventures; I can’t wait to hear more! 🥳

  6. Oh Neeka, look at you getting all settled in and not tripping over your feet every five seconds! I’m proud of you, even if your feet are still being dramatic—you know they have a flair for the theatrics. And seriously, who needs to launch a spaceship when you can chop onions and belt out Brandy at the same time? Just remember, you’re not allowed to take on “confused auntie” duties at work. Leave that to me! Keep soaking up those good vibes from your crew and don’t forget to let the rhythm carry you. Can’t wait to hear more about your adventures in the kitchen!
