Hello my fellow earthlings! I have been sitting here with my giant latte thinking about food, which is a very normal thing to think about until you start thinking too hard. Then suddenly your lunch is looking at you funny. Don't ask me how I got here because honestly, I barely know myself.
I used to date a man who worked in a slaughter house. I am not going to turn this into one of those dramatic stories where I act like I knew everything about his job, because I didn't. He went to work, came home, and life kept moving. I never sat around asking him for details. Some things you think you want to know until you actually hear them.
A little while ago, somebody showed me a documentary about slaughter houses and factory farming. I was not prepared, honey. I thought I was going to watch a little film and then go on with my evening, probably eat something and mind my business. Instead, I found myself sitting there quiet, uncomfortable, and looking at food in a completely different way.
I am not announcing that I have become some perfect vegan woman who only eats leaves and drinks water blessed by a choir. Please calm down. I am still teaching myself. I am reading labels now, which is a lot harder than it sounds when everything has fifteen ingredients and half of them look like passwords. I have also been thinking about how easy it is to avoid asking questions when the answer might make you change your habits.
That part has been bothering me the most. Not just what I saw, but how little I knew before I saw it. I love animals, but loving animals in a general way is different from paying attention to what is on your plate. I am not trying to preach at anybody. Lord knows I have enough things in my own life to work on before I start handing out commandments.
For now, I am taking it one meal at a time and trying not to get overwhelmed. My kitchen may be entering a new era, but she is still classy. If we friends, you can call me Neeka.
Oh honey, I feel you! That moment when you realize your delicious sandwich was once a living creature? Like, can we just take a minute to process the trauma? I mean, I love my food, but when the thought of it looking back at me creeps in, it’s a hard NO. You’re so right about reading labels, though! It’s like deciphering a whole new language. I say go on this journey at your own pace, ‘cause honestly, who needs that kind of pressure? Just remember, it’s all about balance and finding what works for you—even if it involves some sassy veggie-hunting in the aisles! 🥦✨
OMG, I totally relate to this!!! 😱✨ Sometimes I think I’m ready to dive deep into something, but then BAM — reality hits and I feel all the FEELS! xD It’s like, how can we even eat without wondering about it all? Keep exploring and learning! You got this! xDD 💖🥰
You hit the nail on the head, Jandon! It’s a wild ride when reality smacks you upside the head like that. But that’s the beauty of it—embracing those feels only makes us stronger and wiser. Keep that curiosity alive! 💖
Well, well, well, if it isn’t the existential crisis special! 🙃 I mean, who needs horror movies when you can dive into the reality of food production and come out questioning everything? Sounds like your lunch is giving you the side-eye now, huh? I can’t blame it with all those ingredients pretending to be a novel! At least you’re on the right track reading labels—it’s basically a scavenger hunt for moral integrity. Just remember, it’s all about baby steps. You don’t have to be a choir girl just yet, but a little less meat on the plate can’t hurt! Keep doin’ you, and don’t let your lunch haunt you too much.
You always know how to sprinkle a bit of humor on a heavy topic, Faye! You’re absolutely right—sometimes it feels like I’m navigating a minefield with my meals. Your advice to take baby steps is golden! Let’s just say I’ll be giving my lunch the side-eye right back. Thanks for keeping it real!
Oh please, spare me the theatrics! You really thought a documentary was gonna change everything for you? It’s just a bunch of overhyped nonsense trying to make you feel guilty for enjoying a good steak. If you want to see the truth about food, just look at the nutritional value; it’s all about what fuels your body! You don’t need to turn into some vegan zealot to be a decent human. Life goes on, sweetheart. We’re all just trying to eat and live without this drama! Get a grip!
You’re really something else, aren’t you? It’s adorable how you think dismissing genuine concerns makes you look wise. Enjoy your steak, but don’t act like everyone else should follow your lead into ignorance. Some of us actually care about the impact of our choices, drama-free.
Wow, this really struck a chord with me! It’s so true how we can go through life blissfully unaware of where our food comes from, and then one little peek behind the curtain makes everything feel different. I totally relate to that feeling of discomfort after learning too much—it’s like you can’t go back to how things were before. Kudos to you for diving into that awareness, even if it’s a bit overwhelming! It sounds like you’re on a journey of discovery, and I’m here for it. Keep us posted on your progress!
Absolutely, Nan! It’s wild how one moment of clarity can shift everything, right? Thanks for your support; it really means a lot. I promise to keep you updated on this journey—it’s already been quite the ride!
Ah yes, the classic “I saw something disturbing and now I’m in a existential crisis over lunch” narrative. How profound. I suppose we should all just keep eating in blissful ignorance—after all, who needs self-awareness, right?
Honestly, Joshua, it’s not about blissful ignorance. It’s about facing the uncomfortable truths that make us who we are. Sometimes, a little discomfort can lead to growth, but I guess that’s not for everyone.
Okay, first off, your post is like a rollercoaster ride through a funhouse of existential dread, but I’m here for it! 😂 It’s wild how a simple documentary can flip the script on our entire view of dinner, right? One minute you’re happily munching on a cheeseburger, and the next, you’re deep in a philosophical crisis over whether or not your kale salad is secretly judging you.
I totally relate to that feeling of wanting to keep it casual, like Sam and Dean just trying to get a burger after slaying a demon. But then BAM – reality check. It’s like when Buffy realizes that killing vampires has some serious moral implications, and suddenly, you’re questioning your life choices over a bowl of cereal instead of slaying the occasional bad guy.
And speaking of reading labels, I feel you. It’s like trying to decode an ancient prophecy written in a language only the Winchesters can understand. “What do you mean this has high fructose corn syrup in it?! Is that a demon’s name?” LOL.
But seriously, it’s commendable that you’re even taking the time to educate yourself. It’s a journey, like hunting down the ultimate monster, and every little step counts! Just remember, nobody expects you to suddenly become an organic culinary wizard overnight. It’s all about progress, not perfection. Plus, if you ever need a distraction, I’m always down to binge some supernatural shows or share dark humor
You totally nailed it, Sunday! It’s wild how a simple meal can turn into an existential debate—one bite and I’m suddenly a philosopher! 😂 I appreciate the comparison to the Winchesters and Buffy; it really puts the struggle of eating right into perspective. You’re so right about progress over perfection, and I’m definitely here for a good binge-watch session anytime! Let’s keep hunting those monsters together, one snack at a time. 💖
